Japanese communications minister Yoshihide Suga said Friday that Japan will start research and development on technology for a new generation of network that would replace the Internet, eyeing bringing the technology into commercial use in 2020. Speaking to reporters in Brazil, where he is visiting, Suga said an organization will be set up as early as this fall with cooperation from businesses, academia and government offices for promoting the technology when the Internet is seen to be faced with increasing constraints in achieving higher throughputs of data as well as ensuring data security. The envisaged network is expected to ensure faster and more reliable data transmission, and have more resilience against computer virus attacks and breakdowns. The ministry is hoping Japan will take a lead in development of post-Internet technology and setting global standards, a move that ministry officials believe would help make Japanese companies competitive in the global market for hardware and software using such technology. more...

The Panasonic NTT DoCoMo P702iD Mood Phone

The folks at NTT DoCoMo and Panasonic have combined a mood ring and a JapaneseKeitai mobile phone to create the P702iD “mood phone”.

Released last summer, the 3G FOMA phone analyzes your voice tones and patterns (in what the Japanese call “Feel Talk”) and displays your mood in up to 10 colors with a 128-gradient LED light.

The P702iD also comes with a 1.3 megapixel camera, up to 2GB of storage on an optional SD card and the phone is also compatible with DoCoMo’s Chaku-Uta Full service enabling the user to download full music tracks from i-mode sites easily. The phone comes in four colors, and if you’re the type of person who likes mood rings, this is the phone for you!

Japanese train bus hybrid デュアルモードビークル starts in Hokkaido

Japan’s first dual-mode vehicle デュアルモードビークル (DMV) that can travel on both railway tracks and regular roads started transporting passengers for the first time last week in Hokkaido.

The DMVs are designed to run on the roads in less densely populated areas (where there are no train lines) but can to easily switch to run on train lines during rush-hour traffic in high-density areas. JR Hokkaido began developing the vehicle in 2000 as a way to cut the operating costs of rural local lines that had a daily ridership of fewer than 500 people (about 30 per cent) of its total lines.

For those who want to try the new DMV, the 28 seat vehicle starts out as a train at Hama-Koshimizu Station on the Senmo Line and then changes to a bus at Mokoto station and uses conventional bus tires to travel along Route 244.

If you like Casio digital cameras, the new CASIO EXILIM ZOOM EX-Z1000 will be released in Japan at the end of May according to Nikkei PC online.

It will be the world’s first 10 Megapixel zoom camera and is also equipped with a 1/1.8 inch CCD image sensor and a 3x optical zoom. The camera also features world’s first 2.8 inch wide monitor (display), simultaneous viewing of a wide angle and a telephoto shot, and a convenient right-side set of icon controls. World’s largest HD-TV in Tokyo

World’s largest high definition TV screen in Tokyo

Another marvel of technology to see on your next trip to Japan, is the world’s largest high-definition video screen at a horse racing track in in Fuchu, Tokyo.

Built for the Japan Racing Association (JRA) by Mitsubishi Electric, the screen measures 11.2 meters (37 feet) x 66.4 meters (218 feet), is about 4 stories high and has a surface area of 744 square meters (8,000 square feet).

The screen has four different resolutions to present images in a manner that provides best viewing based on the viewer’s distance from the screen. Total cost of the screen is reported to be about 3.2 billion Yen.

The Japanese i-Pot explained

In Japan young people have the iPod, some want the iPhone but the elderly have the i-Pot or “information pot” from the Zojirushi Corporation.

Aimed at the elderly who live alone, the i-Pot not only boils water (for tea or soup) but it also records the times when that elderly person pushes the button that dispenses the water. A wireless communication device at the bottom of the i-pot sends a signal to a server and users of the service can see recent records of i-pot usage on a Web site.

In operation for the last 6 years, the server twice a day e-mails usage times to a designated recipient (like a neighbour or friend who lives nearby) who helps monitor the elderly person. The company rents the pot for about a $50 deposit and charges $30 a month for e-mail and Internet service.

Japanese Pill shaped Camera from Sayaka

RF System Lab is a Nagano based company that has produced Sayaka, an endoscopic capsule (an ingestible pill-shaped camera designed to take pictures from inside the digestive track).

Though there are other endoscopic capsules in the market, Sayaka is different because the camera is positioned on the side instead of the front allowing it to rotate for multiple angle shots. For a typical 8-hour, 8-metre journey through the digestive tract, Sayaka takes about 870,000 photos, which are sent to a receiver located near the body.

First they were special effects in the movies, but a few years ago, Japanese scientists at the Hirose Fukushima Robotics Labs created the life like ACM-R5 amphibious snake robot that operates both on ground and swims in water. With the coming of spring to Japan, many folks will (as the seasons change) decide to change their handsets. With that in mind, Sony Ericsson SE W51S and Japan mobile operator KDDI AU will start selling the brilliantly cool and sleek SE W51S.

The handset has Talk Time of 210 minutes and has been equipped with a 2.7 inch screen with 16:9 widescreen display, a 2.01 MP CMOS camera and internal memory of approximately 120MB. There is a very cool LEDS on the front cover which lights up in patterns when you get a call or message.

The handset also has a great remote security feature where you can remotely lock and delete data on the handset via the internet. The handset will be available in black, silver and pink.

It’s not every day that you would have the chance to play with a robot you see on TV, but with the release of the “Weekly ROBOZAK” magazine from DeAGOSTINI, Japanese Otaku can now subscribe to recieve parts for the robot to be built at home. Over the course of 80 weeks you receive a new part of the robot that you follow instructions on how to assemble.

Minibot Performs Surgery From the Inside Out

Boy, this sounds pleasant. Researchers in Japan have developed a Minibot that enters your body via an incision. It's then controlled from the outside while it performs surgery on you. It has forceps to take tissue samples, can deliver medicine, and take pictures. Most previous mini robots designed for your insides could only take pictures; this is the first to actually be proactive once inside.

So what do you think? Would you rather have a doc slicing and dicing from the outside in, or would you be OK having a tiny robot swimming around your insides doing all the work instead? I can't really imagine the feeling of having a robot inside me, but I guess in the long run it would be better to have the most minimally invasive surgery possible. –Adam Frucci

New Generation Ads Advertising in Japan

Catchyoo is a cool new projection system developed by French company LM3 Labs used in Japan that is helping ads become very interactive by bringing consumers, literally, into the ads themselves.

The digital ads are displayed on any flat surface such as floors, walls or tables, and consumers physically interact with the content/animation of the ad, for example by making ripples in a pool of water with their feet.

The Catchyoo system is also a great way to demonstrate new product features as they have with Apple’s iPhone (see video below). The media is controlled from a remote central centre in charge of scheduling and broadcasting FX and other contents.

THE MIND-READING ROBOT
Machine Mimics Movements by Sensing Brain Activity

Honda Motor and the Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International (ATR) have jointly developed new technology that enables a robot to mimic the movements of a person by reading the patterns of activity in the person's brain. Clench your fist, and the robot does the same; hold two fingers up, and the robot does likewise. Researchers in the West have already developed technology in which devices can be operated by implanting electrodes in the brain or controlling blood flow through special exercises, but this is the first system in the world to achieve robotic movement using changes in the natural blood flow caused by brain activity.

New Use for MRI Data
The new technology takes advantage of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which is well known for its use in medicine. Subtle changes in blood flow occur in the brain when a person moves. These changes are interpreted through MRI, and this data is used by the robot to reproduce the person's movement. In an experiment using the game rock, paper, scissors, the robot analyzed changes in blood flow to judge which of the game's three hand gestures the person was making and mimicked this gesture seven seconds later. Accuracy varied from person to person, but the robot made the right gesture 85% of the time, and the ATR says that in the future it should be able to mimic more complex movements.

The robot uses MRI technology. (Honda and ATR)

Robots today cannot do anything unless they are controlled manually or programmed by human beings. But if this new technology continues to develop, it may become possible to control a robot just by thinking. Over the next year the research team aims to make it possible to control the robot hand just by imagining the appropriate hand movement, as well as to miniaturize the brain-reading device down to the size of a hat, ready for putting the system into practical use.

So far, i've just posted a reviews about Playstation 3. Now, here comes the rivals. Nintendo Wii !!! For your info:

"Wii is the latest games console from gaming giant Nintendo. Wii is scheduled to be released in the fourth quarter of 2006. Wii aims to change the face of gaming, with a revolutionary controller and new types of games Nintendo are hoping to attract gamers who have never previously played.

Also with its 'virtual console' software, Wii will be able to play games from previous consoles such as the original NES, Super NES, N64, Sega Genesis (also known as Mega Drive) and the TurboGrafix 16. This will allow older gamers to relive their favourite games. Gamecube discs will also be playable on the Wii.

Wii already has a strong lineup of games in production, with many more to follow. Familiar characters like Mario and Link will make appearances, as well as new franchises.

The Wii Hardware

- Nintendo Wii’s ‘Broadway’ CPU operates at 729MHZ with a maximum bandwith of 1.9gbyte/sec.
- Nintendo Wii’s ‘HollyWood’ GPU is clocked at 243MHZ, the internal memory of it includes 3mb of embedded graphics memory and 24megabytes of high speed main memory.
- 64megabytes of GDDR3 (MEM2) as the external main memory. Just like the internal memory, it can be accessed from the CPU and GPU with a maximum bandwidth of 4gbytes/sec and can also store programs in the MEM2.
- The GPU of the Wii is identical to the GC’s but it is on average 1.5X faster.

Wii's Optical Disc Drive

- Opitcal Disc Drive (ODD) supports single and dual layer Wii disks, discs eject with software or button and the maximum read speed is the equivalent of DVDx6.
- Two main disc types supported the single sided 12cm single sided 4.7gb and the double sided 8.51 GB. Nintendo GC discs also supported. Some of the capacity of the discs are used by the system and games can not use full disc space.
- Inserting a disc will start the Wii console, even if it was already in an off state. Pressing the eject button will change the console to an on state to take out the disc also.

General Overview

- An optional wired LAN adapter that connects to a USB port is in the pipeline for users who do not possess a wireless LAN set-up currently.
- Internal non-removable 512MB flash memory used to storage game save data and downloadable content thus eliminating the Need for a memory card.
- Both Wii discs and Gamecube discs can be played via an intelligent mode swap. When running in GC mode, the Wii’s CPU and GPU will lower to the respective speeds of the GC and some of the MEM2 functions as ARAM.
- Software development environment is an upgrade to the ‘Dolphin SDK’ used with the GC; the same libraries are used so developers can get up to scratch easily as well as the possibility of ports being easier.
- The following interfaces are included with the Wii; SD card slot, Wireless controller, two USB 2.0 ports, wireless LAN, 4x GC controller ports, 2x GC memory card slots and an AV multi output jack (only an analog jack).
- Supports Wii disks (one sided 12cm) and GC discs (one sided 8cm) and console auto switches depends on what disk is inserted
- More than just the Nunchaku is planned as an extension. GC peripherals such as DK bongos can be used in both Wii and GC modes.
- Three power status, on, off and unplugged. To prevent mistaken turn offs, the power button must be held for about a second.

The Wii Control System

- The Wii controller features; Direct Pointing Device, Three axis accelerometer, Wii power button (remotely turn console on/off), buttons, wireless connectivity, indicator LED’s, rumble, battery powered (two AA alkaline batteries) and ability to connect extension unit.
- The Wii controller supports three types of operations; by itself, with a nunchuk extension or with a classic controller. Classic controllers will ship to developers during August 2006.
- The SYNCHRO button on the Wii controller exchanges wireless ID numbers when pressed at the same time as SYNCRHO on the Wii console. Wireless communications are only possible with consoles which have been authenticated.
- The rumble motor can be turned on and off and the intensity can be changed.
- The Wii remote has a pointer for fine movements as well as a motion sensor +/- 3.4G suitable for larger body movements, the nunchuk attachment has a sensor of +/- 2G
- The sensor bar must be placed above or below a TV set, the pointer measures coordinates between the ends of the bar which are about 20cm apart.
- The Wii remote has four status, disconnected, communicating, establishing connection and pairing wait status.
- The pointer can measure co-ordinates within bounds of rectangle centered upon the sensor bar, thus it can also measure points beyond the screen. It also responds to strong light sources, windows, fluorescent lamps, fireplaces, mirrors etc.
- Due to players hands shaking while holding the controller, a ring buffer allows a precise direction to be created to hold and average accelerator samples.

Broadway CPU

Broadway is Wii's CPU. Broadway functionality and specifications are as follows.

• Operating speed: 729 MHz
• Bus to main memory: 243 MHz, 64 bits (maximum bandwidth: 1.9 gigabytes/sec)

• The FPU supports paired single multiply add (ps_madd). Most FP/PS instructions can be issued in
each cycle and completed in three cycles.
• Fixed-point to floating-point conversion can be performed at the same time as FPU register load and

O', nothin' to do this evening...just doin a little bit surfing on google...about PS3.
Do you know what is PS3? To think, of course u all know bout it! "Playstation" from Sony Corporation Japan. If we rollback to the history of Sony Corp. Japan, the first appliance they've created is electric Rice Cooker.

The idea on that time is to produce items which were needed for everyday life. The electric rice cooker, made by merely interlocking aluminum electrodes which were connected to the bottom of a wooden tub, was a primitive product. The result depended heavily on the kind of rice used and the weight of the water. Tasty rice was a rarity, as the rice cooker produced mostly undercooked or overcooked rice. It was a memorable first failure for Ibuka and his staff...

Ok, enough for the story...but 4 ur info the new business of *Ibuka and his group was well under way by the end of 1945. Ganbate!

Assalaamualaikum!!! Hi There!
Seems this iz the 1st post for today...hmmm...have nothin' to do...
nak study pun malas...I think I'm gonna watch Anime after make this post...For sure, it's Death Note Vol:13. It's a great Anime to watch!!! You don't regret it...

For ur information, here goes a little bit intro for Death Note:

Light Yagami is a 17-year old kid who's top in his class yet has a pretty normal life aside from his incessant studying. One day his eyes fall over a notebook laying on the ground outside of his school. Reading the English cover, "Death Note," and noticing that the writing inside is also in English, Light decides to take it home to read it. Within the next 5 days, Light has already killed many just by watching and recording names of criminals from the news. The Death Note enables him to kill anyone whose face and real name is known. To know more about the rules of the notebook read the terms of the Death Note. Picking up the notebook once more, a monstrous creature appears and speaks to Light, introducing himself as a Shinigami (God of Death) named Ryuk. Ryuk tells Light that only the owner of the Death Note can see him and that he, Light, is now the owner of it and may use it as he chooses. If Light does not want to keep the notebook, he may give it to someone else and Ryuk will erase all related memories from his mind. The notebook bonds both Light and Ryuk, but any mental pain will be delivered to Light alone. He then decides that no matter what it takes, no matter who gets involved, Light will cleanse the world of evil criminals. Although Light is doing a pretty good job gathering up bad guys, when he is interrupted by a top detective by the label "L."
